Get extra help to recycle more
Aberdeen City Council is offering city residents extra recycling bags, boxes and brown wheeled bins free of charge. The council is working with householders to help them cope with the move to alternate week collections and boost the city's recycling levels by providing extra space for items which could be recycled instead of being sent to landfill with residual (black bin) waste.

WORK to repair one of Aberdeen’s most badly rutted roads has been postponed.
Earlier this month, Aberdeen City Council bosses said the resurfacing of a section of the Kingswells to Cults road was “imminent”.
Aberdeen City Council will be making a major change to waste collections services on 17 May 2010, when the frequency of black wheeled bin collections will change from weekly to fortnightly. This applies to approximately 70% of households.
Height restriction barriers which are being installed at the Kingswells Park and Ride site will be operational from Monday [15 February].
The barriers, which are being paid for by Nestrans and First Group, are being installed to prevent unauthorised vehicles taller than 2.1metres, including caravans and motor homes, from entering the site.
The car park at Bucksburn Library and swimming pool will be closed
from Wednesday 17 February to Saturday 20 February while resurfacing
and drainage work is carried out.
Alternative car parking will be available in the Bucksburn Academy car park.
Pedestrian access to the library and swimming pool will remain open.
Aberdeen City Council apologises for any inconvenience caused.

Are you over 50 with a seed of an idea for a social or community enterprise that could help the generation above you?
Not all older people enjoy their later years. They may feel lonely, unfulfilled, excluded or bored.
Aberdeen City Council is urging drivers to avoid blocking gritting lorries from accessing side streets.
The gritting operation in several parts of the city is being hampered by parked cars, which are stopping snowploughs from getting on with the job of clearing snow and salting the streets.
Aberdeen City Council staff continue working to treat the city's roads.
Today's rise in temperature has led to a partial thaw of the snow lying in Aberdeen. However, the Met Office has forecast a considerable dip in temperatures tonight, which means that icy conditions are likely.
Aberdeen City Council has been salting roads and footpaths, but there is a risk that the snow melt-water resulting from today's warmer temperatures could wash away the salt on the roads.
