Kingswells Youth Club opens on a Wednesday evening between 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm at the Old Fairly Road School and although it had been
running successfully for the older youths in Kingswells, there was a need to change requirements last year and reorganize the club for the P7's.
The rationale for this changewas because P7 is a particularly important year group to focus on due to the separation issues relating to children going to different secondary schools. Coming together on a Wednesday evening offers stability during a time of change, a chance to share any anxieties and bond together. It is important to offer a facilitywithin our communitywhich encourages themaintenance of friendships in a relaxed atmosphere. This forum has proved to be very successful in its efforts during the last year.
The club operates with one council employed youth worker supported by three volunteers everyWednesday night. One of the volunteers has to be female and currently there are only 2 female and 2 male volunteers to share this commitment.
The youth club has had the use of the Fairley Road Old School on the understanding that this was a temporary arrangement until ACC required to refurbish the building.
This work is now due to start imminently in order to provide office space and equipment for the "Adventure Aberdeen" outdoor education centre when it moves from its present Summerhill site. As there is no other suitable accommodation in Kingswells for youth provision, the Youth Action
Group/ Kingswells Community Council is looking into the possibility of securing a portacabin to carry on the club.
If you can assist in any of the following please contact Barrie or Linda (details below)
I am interested in helping with youth provision within Kingswells
I can help to obtain a portocabin (through my work, contacts etc)
I would like to offer support to find alternative accommodation.
