Comments on suggestions made on how to spend £6,000

The Community Council is given a small grant (£3,000) each year to enhance the community. We are about to start the installation of additional CCTV equipment in the shopping centre and we are looking for the best positions for some signs for Kingswells Village.

If you have any suggestions for spending up to £6,000 before December then please use the form to provide you views.

Please comment on how good or bad the suggestions made so far are:

No 25: Drainage

Alex Carnie is currently dealing with this issue. If you know of any issues then please report to Alex on

No 24: Carol Concert

This has been considered in the past, but for one reason or another has not been achieved.

KCC is in touch with the Church and the School to see what can be organised this year. If you would like to help out contact John Gerrie

Carol Concert

As we are now into November can I assume that there will not be a Carol Concert this year either???

Have you formed a working group to help organise this event John?

No Volunteers

There have been no volunteers to organise this event. KCC will try to co-ordinate the various groups, but as you say it is late and if there are too many problems then it may not happen this year.

Carol Concert

KCC were offered help to organise this event on the understanding that there would be representatives from the Community Centre, Church and KCC. As far as I know nothing happened after this offer of help was given.

This Is News To Me!!

This is news to me.

Who made the offer of assistance? Who was going to help from the community centre?

I will check out and get back to you.

I do know that an essential component of this event is the use of the community centre. Perhaps you can advise when the community centre will be available?

Don't be so defensive.

I think you'll find that you contacted Rev Dolly Purnell. Profuse apologies if I'm wrong, but i don't believe you replied to her offer of help to set up a meeting. Several members of the Communty Centre were more than willing to help, but sadly we didn't hear anymore from KCC.

I don't think it would be practical for me to list all the times that the Community Centre is available between now and Christmas.

Perhaps you, or Colleen, should telephone the Centre during the week between 9am and 4pm.

No 23: Gala / Fun Day

This is being considered, but needs volunteers to organise it. If you are interested then please contact Stan McEwan

01224 744 632
stanmcewan@sky.com

Gala/Fun Day

Any chance of this happening??? Has a date been provisionally booked? Has a working group been formed to plan this event? If the money needs to be spent by December I imagine the answers to my questions are all "no."

No Volunteers

The activity requires alot of organising. To date nobody has come forward. I am sure KCC would make a contribution to the running costs for the first year, but without volunteers this  will not happen.

Can KCC not organise this

Can KCC not organise this event?

Big Event

Stan McEwan is keen to be involved in this type of thing, but this is a big event and will need more than one person to organise and run it on the day. It will require some assistance from the community.

You can get Stan's contact details from the Contact Us Link

No 21: Kingswells TMO

Why not just use the national LiftShare website instead - all set-up, easy to use, and takes the fuss out of setting up a specific one for Kingswells. Just publicise it more within the community.

No 22 User Friendly Website

Any comments on the website are welcomed.

No 21 Transport Management Organisation

A good suggestion, but one that is likely to need a lot of setting up, and in need of volunteers.

Anyone interested in this project?

No 20 Christmas Tree

This is something that KCC have considered, but this would be a very long term thing to achieve. The size of trees that can be bought with roots is quite small, and any tree would take years to grow into something that could be used.

No 19 Grass Cutting

Peter Stephen wants to be advised if there are any areas that are in an unacceptable condition due to lack of maintenace.

You can email Peter at pestephen@aberdeencity.gov.uk

Community Council Website.

Create a more user friendly website.

No 15, 17 and 18: Things for Teenages to Do

This has always been a problem for Kingswells.

Any suggestions?

KCC has an action group that meets 3 or 4 times a year to discuss Youth issues. It would be useful if you added your suggestions for consideration at the next meeting.

No 16 Wellside Place Playpark

Is the playpark the responsibility of a resident's association? If so then the development of the playpark would come under the RA's control.

CCTV needs to be connected to some recording equipment, It may be possible to connect to the new system wirelessly. KCC will have a look at how feasible this would be.

CCTV needs to be justified. How bad is the problem? Would installing a CCTV system be seen as being heavy handed? What else has been tried to resolve the problem?

Do you know the answer to any of these questions?

No 14: Suggestion for grant

How about a pictorial map of Kingswells, to be situated near the Community Centre? Many residents, and visitors are not sure how to get to Webster Park, Kingswells Church, the Village Hall, the school etc.
There is a nice example of such a map on the leaflets produced by Kingswells Church for their 150 Years celebrations.

No 12 Christmas Lights

KCC have looked at the cost of providing Christmas lights on lamposts.

Each light costs £300 - 500 which is a one off cost. In addition the cost of installation, removal and storage is £80 / year / light.

What do you think? Is this a good use of our funds?

Christmas lights

A nice idea, but a lot of money. Personally I think the Christmas tree is enough.

I agree with Fiona

I agree with Fiona

No 5 Lights at School Playground

There are issues with this including the annoyance to nearby housing.

One issue is the noise made by balls hitting against the blue backing. Is anyone aware of something that can be done to reduce the noise made by balls kicked against steel mesh backing?

No 7 School Playground

The school want to remove the hill in the playground as it is seen as Safety issue. The plan is to relocate the chute that is on the hill, and to provide play equipment on the space created.

The school will be fund raising for this project.

Should KCC assist with some funding, or should the authority provide the required funding to resolve a Safety issue? What are your thoughts?

School Funding

Some of the problems the school is having are fundamental health and safety issues that ACC should resolve.

The school seems to have funding from other sources.

KCC would prefer to look at some other issues that have no funding.

No 7 school playground

YES, WHY NOT DONATE ALL THE MONEY TO THE SCHOOL? IF THERE IS A CHANCE THAT YOU MAY LOSE SOME OF THE GRANT THEN PLEASE DONATE IT TO A WORTHWHILE CAUSE WHILST YOU HAVE THE CHANCE.

No 8 & 9 Fairley Road Football Pitch

The drainage is a problem that has existed for some time and will not be something that can be fixed quickly, or for the funds available to KCC.

The goals could be provided. Not really sure why the original goals were removed. Does anyone know?

KCC will look further into this.

No 10 Boys' Club for under 13s

This is a good idea, but is not really a use for the small grant. This idea would require a group of people to organise the Boys' Club.

Are there any volunteers?

Would you like to join a Boys' Club if one was available?

football team

i put this in because we dont have alot to do on sundays so i can try and get people to play for the team and manage it

Football

I think Webster Park is free on a Sunday.

Do you just want a kick about or a competitive game?

How many people are you talking about?

Football

Have you contacted the Community Centre to ask about availability of Webster Park?
Phone 741806 or email communitycentre@hotmail.com

football

it would have to be competitive games and webster park would be good but i think a range of different ages like 1st year to 2nd year and so on! but i think the football team would work
