Littering seems to be an irritation for a lot of residents, and I see it made it into the councillors report in the recent newsletter as a priority.
For some time I have been in the habit of taking an old plastic sack with me when I take my daughter for a stroll. Hanging it on the back of the buggy I use it to collect litter along the way. On average I think a 40 minute stroll collects the equivalent of 2-3 tesco bags full, and thats just easily accessible litter.
As the KCC recently reported litter seems broadly to fall into categories of food/drink related litter, smoking paraphernalia and left-overs from (presumably) underage drinking sessions. I draw the line at lifting cigarette butts and sacks of dog faeces (what sort of idiot thinks that bagging it and then dumping the bag is a good idea !!).
I realise that education and prevention are key to tackling this problem, however in the abscence of that instant fix I can't help but think that if everyone who took a daily stroll to walk their kids / dogs / significant other or just themselves was to lift a few pieces of litter as they passed the problem would be much less apparent in no time.
Another thing that might help would be the provision of bins at the various play parks scattered through the village.
