The current service is not very reliable, and is changed too often. It is not surprising that passenger numbers are dropping off.

The last change misses out the ARI. This has a devastating effect on some people, and I know that some people who cannot walk from Westburn Road to the turning circle at ARI actually cross the road and catch a bus to ARI. That one stop has a significant affect on some people's lives. Crossing a dual carriageway to catch a bus is unacceptable.

Another change means the 11 and X40 take a different route around the village. This is very confusing especially around the time when the X40 stops and the 11 starts in the evening.

The route into town could be improved by avoiding the junction at Rosemount where the bus has to turn left and then sharp right at the traffic lights. This is not a good / safe manoeuvre for a bus to make, and can cause delays waiting for other traffic giving way.

The introduction of the Stagecoach buses is great for Kingswells, but makes First's job of making the service pay very difficult. It may be better have one operator.

First have a bad attitude to this service and are obviously trying shock tactics to get a subsidy. This is blackmail, and ACC should not give in. The X40 service as a whole is profitable due to use at the Bridge of Don end. First cannot be allowed to cherry pick the good bits, and ignore the less profitable areas.

I live in Old Skene Road in the orginal part of Kingswells. This area has lost access to a bus stop on the A944 opposite the church, and now Stagecoach service the P&R they no longer stop at the Prime Four stop on the A944.

The P&R is too far from the Four Mile area and any new arrangements should consider a new bus stop between the Kingswells roundabout and the P&R. There is a good spot just after the crossing. This would make it safe to cross the road to access Old Skene Road.

Stagecoach need to operate in Kingswells village. First are awful!

Kingswells need a bus service morning noon and night! First bus services are always cutting the number of buses on this route.

If First Aberdeen want to withdrawn this service, then why can't Stagecoach who already operate bus services on the same corridor provide more buses to Westhill and Kingswells. Stagecoach provide cheaper and affordable fares anyway 3 day ticket and 10 weekly ticket at those prices First Aberdeen who have more dearer fares surely won't be missed. Stagecoach could provide several different services as I would like to suggest:

All Westburn Road & Lang Stracht, Foresterhill services go to Kingswells Park and Ride and then go around Kingswells Village and then back to city. (like X40)

All Queens Road & Woodend services go to Kingswells Park and Ride and then to different areas of Westhill, Elrick & some could go as far as Alford.

Where the Kingswells Park and Ride would be the interchange for passengers from Westhill to Foresterhill to change buses as there is a waiting room suitable for change of buses to take place.

I would encourage both First & stagecoach operators to use different service numbers for example there is two N17 night bus routes (Dyce & Westhill!)

My idea for services would be use PRIME FOUR as an example and Stagecoach gave three different services.

Alford to Aberdeen via Elrick & Westhill
46 via Queens Road, 46A via ARI, X46 Alford to Aberdeen direct via A944, Elrick, Queens Road.

Elrick to Aberdeen via Queens Road
X47, 47A via Arnhall Business Park, 47B via Hillside & Broadshade. N47 night bus.

Kingswells to Aberdeen via Westburn X48.

This would eliminate confusion with First bus service numbers 17 17A 17B N17 18 18A N18 as service numbers should be more unique.

Takes too long going round the village on the way into town. Would be good if it avoided the P&R. Service after 8pm at night is rubbish. It'a too expensive, it should be really cheap to drag people away from their cars. Hydrogen buses are great. I wish Stagecoach provided it. Better prices and more pleasant drivers.

Buses need to be much cheaper (look at how much a 5p charge on poly bags changed behaviour), good cycling routes need to be created, improved and promoted - Core Path to Bucksburn is disappearing in places. New train stations at Bucksburn and Newtonhill. KCC should promote cycling and cycle paths instead of sending out mixed messages about how cyclists should be on the road, when we do have multi-use paths. Editors of local newsletters should suggest trying the bus or cycling instead of stating we just have to sit in our cars and be patient when roadworks are causing much congestion; the whole mindset of how we should travel in the city has to change.

Revert X40 route to previous route, same as what Service 11 is drop Kingswells Avenue South bound.
X40 should go via P&R on way to village, not required when leaving village.

I only use the bus in bad weather or when not feeling 100%. I cycle to work as it is faster and cheaper. That said the bus service I feel is vital to the whole village.

As a family we are really worried about the buses in kingswells. My husband works full time. I work in town and at weekends as does my daughter who is a student and works evenings and weekends. It would take about an hour each way to walk to main road for country bus. How safe is this especially for my daughter after work at 11pm walking home from there!!

As Kingswells is losing its bus service has anyone thought about having a circular bus that starts and finishes at the park and ride. The circular bus runs from the P&R along the Kingswells by-pass and then on to Kingswells crescent, turning up Kingswells Ave, then on to Kingswood dr and follow the old route to the P&R. The bus could run every 15 mins. If that is too expensive then why not run it as peak periods.

One of the biggest issues is that the x40 & x18 run at very similar times. This has got to be wrong.

Overall it is fine. 45 minutes into town is too long. The frequency late evening is poor. Not a fan of stopping at the P & R.

I already use it on working days as I do not drive. Preferred the old 14 bus which omitted the P & R completely. Increase the frequency late evening.

Living in Wellside and not driving the P & R is of no use to me. I certainly do not fancy a 30 minute walk to and from there in the midst of Winter. Stagecoach taking over the route through the village would be fine, but some people who have an onward journey with First will have to pay for two bus passes.

I no longer use the bus service as it is unreliable and takes too long to get into town. However I am filling this out on behalf of my son and husband who tend to use the bus to attend football matches, and commute to and from town. The services including the park and ride have all become unreliable. I used to utilise the P&R to commute to work in town it was a great service then, it travelled from the P&R directly into town, no stopping along the way. In town in about 20 mins this is how this service should have stayed not stopping off at every stop along already we'll serviced routes! It was concieved as an alternative way to attract workers to leave their cars and use public transport not as another bus route for already well serviced areas. The bus service in Kingswells has been deteriorating over the last few years and it's no wonder people aren't using it, can't help but think this was the plan all along!

Resurrect the old P&R service I've park car, get on clean modern bus and no stopping until the top of union street. If there is no direct route from Kingswells then provide a Small Feeder bus that travels around the village regularly (every 15 mins) picking up passengers and taking them to the P&R to give them a choice of other bus companies

I really hope that First Bus listen to their customers and read though these submissions thoroughly, there are some great ideas here. Might help restore their brand and reputation however to be honest there aren't many alternative options in Aberdeen for commuting hence why people rely on cars so much.

The current service is OK, but could miss out the P&R and also it would be better if it travelled along the Queens Road route (don't know the route name). Like the old number 15 (or was it 14 ?). Anyway, then the whole travelling time it takes to reach town is about 25 minutes.......excellent.

Kingswells needs a bus service. We have a whole community depending and expecting to be able to use it. There are more and more new builds. So it must be quite embarrassing to ACC/Stewart Milne to expect people move to Kingswells BUT there is no bus service.......it's ridiculous.

I moved to kingswells two months ago. It was hard to find out the bus route and it is not clear on the first site. I agree with others comments that the park and ride adds lots of time to the journey and I feel it is unnecessary. I commute home from work and usually at least 2 if not 3 X17 pass me on union street in the time I am waiting on the X40. The park and ride is well serviced already. The X40 does a long route and as a consequence is always at least minutes 5 late, if not more. However, the bus often pulls forward at the hospital stop and waits like it is early. If it was 7 minutes late to pick me up I don't understand how it can be early by the time it gets to the hospital or why it needs to wait there so long. If there is no bus it will put people off wanting to live in kingswells. As a young professional I would have thought twice about moving to the area had I known it would be cut off from the city.

cut out the park and ride. A more direct circular route would be less likely to run late and as a consequence hopefully better used. I like the idea of systems installed for triggering the lights on the lang stracht into kingswells for the bus. If the park and ride is to remain in the route it would be helpful for there too. 6 minutes of the journey can easily be spent waiting at both lights together.

The bus service is unreliable, since the timetable changed in April the bus is persistently late every morning, I get the bus at 6.28 in the morning to get to work for 7am, the 6.28 time seems to be there just for the sake of it as there has not been a single time that the bus was there when it is supposed to be. It seems like the drivers have a different timetable they stick to as even after being late, it stops for a while at the terminus - beyond frustrating when people are trying to get to work on time. In the past few months x40 has been used for training new drivers pretty much every morning, while I appreciate people need to be trained up for the job, this should not affect the service so badly. The long short of it is the bus service deteriorated since the changes made in April, not only did the price for 12 week passes increased but also we are getting even less of a reliable service, however, I have got no other choice as I do not drive and depend entirely on the bus service to get me to and back from work. The idea of public transport should be to serve the community not fixating on profits as other services within Aberdeen should outweigh the differences, seems incomprehensible to even consider cutting of a whole village affecting so many people who are dependent on the bus service or would just like to do their bit and avoid using car all the time.

I do use the bus but not as a frequent commuter. I did use it regularly for a 6 month period when I was not allowed to drive for medical reasons and it would have been very difficult to get to work without it. I have a great deal of concern for the people of Kingswells, who are elderly, unable to drive for various reasons, or who cannot afford a car who will lose their only way of getting around. I am luckier as in Edmond Gardens and can use the Stagecoach buses although these are not ideal for the areas I need to go to and I can also use the Park and Ride stop too, but for anyone who lives at the further end of the village this will be a ridiculous scenario for them. We are still classed as an area of Aberdeen so we should still receive the same privileges as the rest of the city get!

My son uses it as often as he needs to get into Aberdeen. I personally don't use the bus, I find it far too expensive and it is not practical to use it to get to my job in Mugiemoss.

Removing the bus service completely from Kingswells would be disgraceful and a disaster for the local community. How on earth are people expected ti get to the city. Also if it is finacially uneconomical to operate then there must be other routes that are as well do will they get axed?

Would prefer a direct route into town without the need for going in to park and ride. Would like bus to be at least every 20 mins through the day as every 30 mins is too long. It is so frustrating waiting in union street for an x40 and seeing the number 23 every 10 mins and going past empty half of the time. If first bus are not willing to provide this service could another bus company be approached.

I use the route as often as possible as I don't drive and work in the centre of town and also use the bus to take my child to the nursery at the shops.

The number 23 seems a very well used route with plenty of buses. Perhaps extending one of those services every 40 minutes or so to serve Kingswells may off set the fact, according to First Bus, that the Kingswells bus loses money.

Going in and out of the P&R also can add almost 10 minutes on to a journey. A third of any journey on the Kingswells service can be spent actually going round the village before getting our stop, a total rethink of any routes is needed, reducing the service may be ok if the present route was faster.

Removal of the risk to my person in having to play 'chicken' with traffic when returning home (Old Skene Road)
Prior - I was able to use the Prime 4 south side stop. My current alternatives are - use the stop at the mini roundabout - where the Langstrach joins, or proceed to the P&R. If I proceed to the P&R my walking time increases to 20 minutes. If I use the 'playing chicken' stop walking time is 10 mins.
When I used the Prime 4 stop - walking time was around 10 - 15 minutes - but was MUCH safer with proper traffic control measures.

If proper traffic control could be introduced at the Lang Stracht / roundabout stop I would continue to use.
Anything to make things safer is welcome.

If this bus service stops working I may have trouble keeping my work as I can't drive and have problems with my legs that would make it difficult to walk to the park and ride each day. Please realise that this is going to affect a lot of people's life's.

Now that I work in the city centre and have no parking provided, it is far too expensive for me to take the car every day. The bus is a great alternative. If the travel times were quicker that would be better but I accept that this isn't always possible. I think the current service does well

Having been gifted pair bus passes by friend as a 'funny idea for a present'. My husband and I decided to leave the cars at home and try the buses. We used bus stop 17. However, we discovered the buses around the village were so unreliable we drove up to the bus stop by the church on A944, hoping to catch a bus there. Again the buses never arrived on time. The frequency of the buses not arriving on time or not even turning up was nearly every 4 or 5 day. We persisted for several weeks. I eventually stopped using the buses, as I had missed to many appointments and arrived late to meet friends. My husband continued with the buses, but only because he had flexible work hours. If he had a set time, he would have been late nearly everyday. Which for bus services is outrageous. And before the bus companies say catch an earlier bus he tried.mOn several occasions he waited over an hour for buses - Bus are unreliable...

What changes would be required to the bus service to allow you to use it more?

All buses need to be reliable, arriving on time.
Frequent buses - every 15 minutes.
Routes need to be direct from the village, into town avoiding the P&R and avoiding the going outside the village.

Need to be clean, comfortable with drivers who know the route.
Fares are to expensive - car costs less to run and more convenient.

Need smaller 'Beaver Buses' which are run by a local or community company that has an interest in the residents needs and not the share price.

P&R adds extra time and effort to a journey if you come from Kingswells. For bus services to work they need to be convenient for the user, reliable, frequent and comfortable. Going to the P & R from Kingswells is inconvenient, unreliable and uncomfortable,may as well continue driving into town.

We would use the bus much more but the infrequency of the service, particularly in the evening, makes this impractical. Although I have listed stop 1, my son will often catch the bus opposite the chemist as he will meet his friends at that bus stop prior to going in to town.

What changes would be required to the bus service to allow you to use it more?

Increased frequency in the evenings. For example a trip to the cinema and knowing that whenever you come out there is only a max 10 minute for the next bus.

Some of the questions you ask are difficult to answer. Part of the reason I wish to see the bus retained is that I am growing older. Walking to the local shops or back from the shops may become more difficult - I would like the option of catching a bus within and between stops in the village, whether to go to the shops or to visit friends. Also the question on whether or not I would drive to the Park and Ride - if I am planning to have a glass of wine with a meal in town then the answer would be no - I would not drive to the park and ride. I would probably walk and then take a taxi home. The proposals are not at all clear about the evening service, or what happens during school holidays. Rather than hearing a lot about which services are about to be stopped, can First Bus make it clear about the proposed timetable for any remaining service? Are they planning to provide any replacement service?

I think the current service runs well, I have never had complaints.

Cheaper ticket to get from one side of the village to the other. It would cost me 2.30 to get from Wellside to the P&R if I wanted to go out to westhill

I have to travel around Wellside/Derbeth in the mornings which adds time to my journey but really don't mind as long as there is a frequent bus service for commuting to work

Reduce journey times. A new service for Kingswells that did not visit P&R on outward and inward journeys.

It is unreasonable to expect travellers to walk to P&R site to access public transport. Kingswells should have a reliable bus service in keeping with the rest of Aberdeen City.

I only use at evenings or weekends when I go into Aberdeen - this will not increase if bus service improves but will be severely affected if the service is removed. I do not work in Aberdeen and don't drive to the town centre if possible

Don't call P&R a P&R as it is not. Keep at least half hour service throughout village, hourly later in evening. Cut length of journey by only going thru village once then returning by main road. Only go into P&R once on any journey - there are enough Westhill buses to cover any new passengers.
