Installation of Toucan Crossing on Kingswells Bypass

A letter received from ACC.

I wish to advise that works to install a new Toucan crossing on the Kingswells Bypass Road, approximately 50m north of Kingswells Roundabout, is due to commence on Monday 27th February 2012. As part of these works the opportunity will be taken to upgrade the controller for the traffic signals at Kingswells Roundabout and make some alterations to the operation and timings of the lights.

It is anticipated that the works will take approximately 3 weeks to complete however, this time-scale is weather dependent. During the course of the works it is my intention that disruption to local residents and the travelling public will be kept to a minimum, however off peak lane closures will be necessary to allow essential carriageway excavations to be carried out.

Should you have any queries with regard to these works please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely

  1. The road layout will change as part of the road improvements associated with the Prime Four business park. An additional lane will be introduced and this will allow a safe right turn towards Fairley Road.

Work will begin on the development around May this year, so hopefully the road improvements will not be too long in coming.

  2. Why cannot a cycle overpass/underpass be installed? This surely would be a safer and more fluid setup?

We already have a dangerous setup here with the way the traffic flows in and around the area leading to & from Fairly Road and the roundabout at Kingswells.
